Joffre (Toad) Sechier, 89, of Sunnyside passed away Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at Sunnyside Community Hospital following a brief illness.
He was born July 18, 1917 in Sunnyside to Ferdinand and Rachael (Allemonde) Sechier. His family was in the sheep herding business. Joffre served in WWII in the Battle of Britain and was stationed in Germany in 1946. He married Helen DeWeese of Seattle in December 1960, whom he had met through his sister, Lorraine. The couple made their home in Sunnyside.
He is survived by one sister, Lorraine Sechier of Sunnyside, (Babe); two daughters and son-in-laws, Michelle and Bob Hall of Sunnyside and Suzanne and Nick DeRuyter of Caldwell, Idaho; and one son, Joffre Sechier of Des Moines. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, which were his pride and joy, Matthew Grubenhoff, 22, Kristen Grubenhoff, 21, Meghan Grubenhoff, 18, Nicolaas DeRuyter, 19, Annelise DeRuyter, 18, Corrie DeRuyter, 17, Jacob DeRuyter, 16, Alex DeRuyter, 6 and Olivia DeRuyter, 2, of Caldwell, Carrissa Haber and Joffre Sechier of Des Moines.
Joffre was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 2001, two brothers, Mike Sechier, in 1980 and Fred Sechier, in 2003 and one sister, Blanche Thomas, in 1955.
At the request of Toad, there will be no funeral services. Valley Hills Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
