Suncadia plans WinterFest celebration

ROSLYN - Sleigh rides and a traditional Christmas tree lighting are among the events planned this December at Suncadia, a 6,000-acre resort near Roslyn.

Known as WinterFest at Suncadia, the month-long celebration will feature a tree lighting ceremony from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2, 9, 16 and 23.

The lighting event, free to the public, will include musical performances and hot chocolate.

Those same Saturdays will also feature sleigh rides from 9 to 11 a.m. The rides are free and start at the Suncadia sales center.

WinterFest will also feature snowshoe tours Thursdays through Sundays, from Dec. 7 to Dec. 28. The guided snowshoe tours begin at 9 a.m. and will venture off trail. No experience is necessary, and all ages and ability levels are welcome. Equipment and transportation are included for the tours, which depart from the Inn at Suncadia.

On Saturdays and Sundays between Dec. 2 and 31, snowmobile tours will be offered beginning at 8 a.m. The tours will explore the powder-filled valleys and high mountain terrain of the Cascade Mountains. This four-hour guided tour includes snowmobile rental and a warm lunch. Tours depart from the Salmon La Sac Sno-Park at 8:00 a.m. and are limited to 10 people per tour.

All WinterFest activities are planned, weather and snow conditions permitting.
