It's finally September 1 and this day brings happy anticipations for me and I'm sure for other people as well.
It's Friday so people are sure to be happy about that. The three-day weekend sure brings a smile to my face.
What to do over the weekend? Camping, BBQs or just lying around the house. So many decisions to make and all of them promising.
The local high schools should be buzzing today. It's the first day of high school football with the big game between Sunnyside and Grandview only hours away.
I'm sure the Sunnyside High School football team is anticipating getting even with Grandview for beating the Grizzlies last year. I'm also sure the Grandview High School football team is looking forward to beating the Grizzlies for the second year in a row.
September 1 brings the start of the end of summer. There is only 20 days left until fall takes over and the colors start to change.
It's also my anniversary today. I've been married for three years. Wow. I know that doesn't sound like a long time for someone who's been married for 20 years, but, for me, it's a milestone. I look forward to the surprises another year of marriage will bring me.
Another milestone for my wife and me is that our daughter started crawling yesterday. My wife and I have been anticipating that Piper would start crawling soon. She's been trying for a while now. She's been able to get up on all fours for about a month now but she was only able to rock back and forth.
This usually caused her to go backwards rather than forward. Something she didn't always appreciate.
Now that she's mastered the art of crawling, Tanya and I have other anticipations, not all of them good. We now have to watch her like a hawk. Before, we could put her on a blanket and let her play. That luxury is now gone but it's OK. It's fun to watch Piper progress.
I'm sure September 1 doesn't bring happy anticipations for everyone. The Sunnyside School District starts school on Sept. 5 and I'll bet there is a few unhappy students. There is only four more days of summer vacation for them. Bummer.
But, I'll bet that most of the students are excited about the new school year.
So rejoice people of the Lower Valley. The last three-day weekend with expected good weather is here. Enjoy yourselves. This won't come around for another year.
