GRANDVIEW - The Grandview Greyhounds finally got the monkey off their back when Anna George dribbled the ball down the field and scored with 10 minutes left to play.
It was the only goal of the day for the Greyhounds and they ended up losing to Wapato 5-1, but the ice had been broken.
"We were very excited about Anna's goal," Grandview soccer coach Ronda Penwell said. "We got that first goal (of the season) out of the way. Hopefully they'll come easier now."
In first half action the Greyhounds (0-2, 0-3) were playing good soccer but Penwell said the girls made mental mistakes.
"There would be breakdowns here and there and Wapato would take advantage of them every time," Penwell explained.
During the game the Wapato players bombarded the Greyhound goal with 38 shot attempts. Grandview keeper Araceli Delgado stopped all but five of them.
"She had a really solid game," Penwell said.
Wapato led 4-0 at halftime.
"In the second half we played more aggressively," Penwell said. "We worked hard and didn't make the mental mistakes we made in the first half. We've been working on being more aggressive in practice."
Grandview will travel to Ephrata this Thursday, Sept. 14.
