Moxee businessman Rand Elliott pulled further ahead in ballot counts over the weekend to virtually lock up the County Commissioner, District 3, Republican primary race.
The latest tally shows Elliott with 1,802 votes to 1,585 for Hinzerling Winery owner Mike Wallace.
With 1,000 ballots left to count, and perhaps about 300 of those from the Lower Valley, Wallace said "it would have be an awfully unusual trend" in order to overtake Elliott.
"I guess Mr. Elliott has won and the people have spoken," said Wallace.
He noted that voter turnout was only about 15 percent in the Lower Valley, less than half of the turnout for the rest of the county. "I'm surprised at the low number of people who voted," Wallace said of the local numbers.
"I'm relieved, it's been a long six months," Elliott said of the primary race. "The result is clear and I look forward to the next race and another win."
Elliott will face Democrat Earl Lee in the November general election.
