Mary Ann Elizabeth Nelson, 94, of Sunnyside passed away Sunday, April 1, 2007, at her son’s home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Dec. 25, 1912 in Milan, Minn, the daughter of William Manual and Ida Milhilda (Anderson) Ekholm. Mary Ann received her education in Menonmonie, Wis. On Dec. 24, 1933, she married Gordon I. Nelson in Menonmonie. The Nelsons moved to Sunnyside in 1948, where Mary Ann worked 20 years for Marathon Paper Company. She later was a district secretary for Simplot Soil Builders, retiring in 1978. She was a founding and dedicated member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Sunnyside. Following retirement, a major part of her life was caring for family and friends. Mary Ann enjoyed the outdoors, traveling and walking with friends. Mary Ann cherished time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mary Ann is survived by two sons, Jon Nelson of Sunnyside and Joye Nelson and wife, Beth, of Walla Walla; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Greenwood of Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon; and one daughter, Nancy Jo Granger.

Viewing and visitation will be on Thursday, April 5, 2007, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Funeral services will be on Friday, April 6, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Sunnyside.
