Hollmeyer nails down two wins in 58th annual city bowling tourney

Chris Hollmeyer, you might say, is a team player.

In the recently concluded 58th annual city bowling tournament, Hollmeyer scored a pair of first place finishes in team competition and doubles at Sunnyside's Valley Lanes.

Hollmeyer hooked up with Dusty Fox, Darrell Clampitt and Manny Herrera to blow away the competition in team bowling. The foursome totaled a 3,123 pin count for its three-game (handicap) series, topping the runner-up Inland NW Dairies squad by 106 pins.

Hollmeyer also teamed with Jay Castle to score a top finish in doubles play. The duo combined to roll a 1,491 three-game (handicap) series, 27 pins better than second place finishing Alfred Hawk and Jacob Spencer.

In singles, John Golob bested all comers with a splashy 815 three-game (handicap) series. The closest anyone came to him was a 794, rolled by second place finishing Jay Lakey.

In the all-events handicap division for bowlers with averages of 179 and below, Ellen Curtiss finished on top by rolling an aggregate 2,204 series for her nine games in singles, doubles and team play.

Michael Colley won the all-events handicap title for bowlers with averages of 180 and above, shooting an aggregate 2,190.

In the only division where bowlers do not get to add their handicaps on to their actual scores, Rob Rice came away with the all-events scratch title. He tallied a 2,133 pin count for his nine games of competition, averaging a 237 in the process.
