OTHELLO - The Grandview High School girls tennis team claimed its third consecutive victory with a 3-2 win at Othello yesterday.
The Greyhound boys weren't as fortunate, dropping a 3-2 decision to the Huskies to fall to 1-4 in CWAC play.
In No. 2 girls doubles play Christine Penwell and Sydney Mottice of Grandview won handily, winning in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 over J. Schmidt and J. Roylance of Othello.
Grandview singles players Miranda Shreeve and Kyla Leyendekker were victorious as well. Shreeve handed Othello's S. Schmidt a 6-4, 6-2 loss in No. 1 singles play. In No. 2 singles play Leyendekker defeated Risa Kumai of Othello.
The two losses for the Grandview girls were at the expense of the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles teams. Allison Grow and Danika Martinez, the No. 1 doubles team, were defeated by Othello's C. Garza and P. Cantu 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. And, the No. 3 doubles team of Noelle Miller and Samantha Wyatt suffered a 6-0, 6-1 loss to K. Spohr and C. Melendez.
Grandview's two victories on the boys side were in singles play. No. 1 singles player Marco Diaz defeated Othello's M. Anderson 6-1, 6-1, and R. Rodriguez of Othello fell at the hands of Grandview's Rogi Fajardo in No. 2 singles play (6-0, 6-1).
The No. 1 doubles team of Nick Saldana and Raymond Cantu of Grandview lost to Othello's S. Harris and T. Peterson 6-0, 6-2, and the Grandview No. 2 doubles team of Edgar Candido and Richie Gamino fell to Othello's J. Gowan and R. Peterson 6-0, 6-3.
Grandview forfeited the No. 3 doubles match to Othello.
Grandview is scheduled to play at Ephrata this coming Saturday.
