County hires communications director for homeless network

Yakima County commissioners on Tuesday approved a contract to name Pat Brown as the community relations director for the Homeless Network of Yakima County.

The contract will pay up to $12,000 per year, based on 20 hours of work a month at $50 per hour.

The county homeless network receives funds from the state to work on issues related to the homeless population and affordable housing.

The program's growth resulted in hiring a community relations director, noted Tim Sullivan, who works with the county on homeless and affordable housing issues.

Sullivan said there are now 40 different service providers, a partnership of public and private entities, that work with the homeless network.

In addition, Sullivan said Brown will help develop a plan for reporting the network's activities to the state.
