“Randy” A. Aguirre, 82, of Sunnyside passed away on

Thursday, April 12, 2007

, at his home.

He was born

May 28, 1924

Asherton

Texas

to Jose and

Nicholasa

Abrego

) Aguirre. Randy received his education and spent his early years as a Boy Scout leader in

Asherton

. From 1943 until 1945, Randy served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner with the U.S.S Barnes Navy Carrier. In 1951, he started his career as an Army munitions handler at the Umatilla Ordinance Depot. On

Nov. 22, 1953

, he married Ruth Trujillo at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Toppenish.

Randy worked for 35 years at

Mojonniers

and Sons as the head mechanic. Following his retirement, he worked for 10 years at Johnson and Sons as an asparagus grader.

He was very talented with his hands, designing, building and repairing equipment.

Randy enjoyed working in his yard, gardening,

cooking

, traveling, cruising, casino Tuesdays and meeting his buddies for coffee. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Mariners, Seahawks and Sonics.

Randy cherished his family and especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Randy is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ruth Aguirre of Sunnyside; five children, Dana Ortiz and husband, Rudy, of Grandview, Denise Prior of Kennewick, Randy Aguirre and Lisa

DeRuyter

and husband, Bill, all of Sunnyside and Richard Jay Aguirre of Pasco; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Josephina

Rubalcaba

, Lillie

Cedillo

and husband, Juan and Nora Rodriguez, all of Calif., Martha

Bustamante

and husband, Cleo, and Eva Martinez and husband,

Baldo

, all of Texas; and a sister-in-law, Lela Aguirre of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister,

Otilla

Picket; and one brother, Joe

Aguirre

.

Viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2007, from 2 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in

Sunnyside

. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in

Sunnyside

, with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in

Sunnyside

. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
