LYLE - The Sunnyside Christian High School girls fastpitch softball team made short work of the Lyle Cougars last Friday. Pounding out 10 hits in the abbreviated five-inning game, the Lady Knights rolled to a 14-1 victory.
The win boosted Sunnyside Christian's league record to 3-1, 8-5 overall.
In holding the host Cougars to just one run on the day, Sunnyside Christian received a stellar pitching performance from senior Tori Van Wingerden. She yielded just one hit to Lyle, striking out four along the way while walking only two.
"Tori's change-up is starting to work a little bit," said SCHS Coach Sandy Harris. "She's keeping her pitches down low for the most part, although she's not always getting them called for strikes."
Offensively for the Lady Knights, Van Wingerden's sister - Melanie - drove in a game high two runs on a 2-for-4 effort at the plate. Also coming through with two hits apiece for Sunnyside Christian last Friday were the older Van Wingerden, Leah Bosma and Brittany den Hoed.
Sunnyside Christian will host Klickitat for a pair of league games tomorrow (Tuesday), and will entertain Grandview at home for a non-league game on Thursday.
