R. L. “Dick” Boday, 74, of

Tacoma

passed away on

Sunday, April 22, 2007

Dick was born

July 30, 1932

, in Mabton and raised there for 18 years. He joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for more than three years as a crash firefighter. He spent time in

Corpus Christi

,

Texas

and aboard the U.S.S. Randolph. He was fortunate enough to see

Haiti

,

Cuba

,

Gibraltar

,

Spain

,

France

,

Greece

,

Italy

and

Algiers

during his tour.

Dick was an employee of the federal government as a firefighter for 27 years. He retired as Fire Chief in 1983. He was a journeyman plumber for 22 years and worked with a pay phone company for 11 years. He also drove an 18-wheeler for a time. No, he wasn't 100 years

old,

he just always had more than one job. He loved to keep busy.

He is survived by his wife Sandra K. of Tacoma; one brother, Bob (Jo), of Walla Walla; two sisters, Dorothy and Barbara (Bob), of West Richland; three daughters, Teri (Curtis), Julie (Pete) and Dawn; his sons, Gerald, Jeff (Debbie), Marty and Chris, plus a fifth son, Francis (Pam) Cool; 17 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a lot of friends and very few enemies;

and

by his two big black dogs, Buddy and Oscar.

He was preceded in death by his parents,

Milo

and Hazel Boday; first wife, Nona and second wife, Lynna; a daughter, V.I.; one brother, Bill; and a sister, Delores.
