From a harvest contest to the crowning of a royal critter, several new events are in the offing for Sunshine Days in Sunnyside, Sept. 14-16.
The contests are an effort to create a family-friendly atmosphere for Sunshine Days.
One of the contests ties directly in the local agricultural community as prizes will be given during Sunshine Days for the largest zucchini, tomato, apple and jalapeno. Other produce awards include longest cucumber, tallest corn stalk, most unusual fruit and vegetable, as well as best cut flower arrangement.
Animals will also take center stage during the critter crowning contest that will have the winner dubbed the Sunshine Days Royal Critter as the official mascot for the 2007 Sunshine Days celebration.
All animal owners are invited to submit a photo of themselves and their favorite pet or farm animal for the chance to win prizes and, perhaps, receive the Royal Critter nod. Entries should provide information about the animals and why they should be Sunshine Days royalty.
Royal critter entries must be received at the Chamber office, 230 E. Edison, P.O. Box 360, in Sunnyside by Aug. 27. Entry forms are available at the chamber, as well as the Daily Sun News office.
Entries are due at the Chamber by Aug. 25 for the Sunshine Days photo contest. Amateur photographers are asked to share digital snapshots from around the Sunnyside area. Entries should reflect the best the Sunnyside area has to offer.
All ages are welcome to participate in the photo contest. Entries should be submitted as 11x14 photographs on photography paper, along with a jpeg file. The winning image will be featured on the Chamber of Commerce website, city of Sunnyside website.
For more information on any of the above contests phone the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce at 837-5939, or e-mail director Pam Turner at firstname.lastname@example.org
