City of Sunnyside just got a little bigger

The city of Sunnyside grew by approximately 127 acres due to the Sunnyside City Council approving two annexations Monday night.

The Padelford annexation consists of five parcels of land approximately 123 acres in size. This land is located north of the Sunnyside Municipal Airport, south of Sheller Road and east of State Route 241.

The other annexation, known as the Tadlock annexation, consists of two parcels of land approximately four acres in size. This land is located north of the Mountain States Construction office on the west side of Scoon Road.

The State Boundary Review Board issued its order on July 16 approving the Tadlock annexation, which included the addition of property not originally in the annex plan so as not to create an island of county jurisdiction property.

The family that owns this piece of land objected to being included in the annexation and the Sunnyside Planning Commission forwarded the annexation request without including the additional property. The family then changed its decision and asked to be included.

The Tadlock annexation will designated a B-2 general commercial zone.

The Padelford annexation was approved by the State Boundary Review Board on July 17. The planning commission could not decide on a specific zone designation for the new annexation so it will be forwarded to the hearing examiner. Once forwarded to the hearing examiner an open record public hearing could be held and a recommendation of zoning could then be made and returned back to council for final determination on zoning.
