The city of Sunnyside got the answer it was looking for yesterday, Tuesday, when Yakima County commissioners approved a $25,000 grant that will fund a master plan study for the Monson property just west of town.
The grant application received an initial recommendation for approval earlier this summer from the county's Supporting Investment in Economic Development (SIED) board.
Sunnyside wrapped up its $2.5 million purchase of the 150-acre former feedlot property back in June and plans to turn it into a commercial business park.
The $25,000 SIED grant will pay for a master plan design and preliminary engineering study.
The study will look at laying out utilities to the property, which will be called the West Sunnyside Business Park, once it is annexed to the city.
In addition, the study will analyze how best to divide up the acreage to help the city get maximum return on its investment.
City Manager Bob Stockwell has indicated Sunnyside will likely receive the results of the study by the end of this year.
