County okays 'Project Safe Neighborhoods'

Yakima County will utilize a two-year, $20,000 grant to help cut down on gang activity.

Known as Project Safe Neighborhoods, the effort will enable Sheriff's deputies to partner with federal authorities.

The county's crime reduction unit will carry out gang-related investigations under the grant agreement, reporting on issues such as number of gangs operating in the county, gang-related homicides and gang-related arrests.
