Cutting to the Core

YouTube...greatest thing on the internet

I love YouTube. For those not in the know, YouTube is a website where people can upload their own broadcasts.

Now literally everyone can make their own movie and have thousands, if not millions, of viewers watch their projects.

People can also upload clips of their favorite movies, shows and videos. Soldiers in Iraq have used the website to show Americans what the network news won't show. Some good, some bad.

But mostly it's a fun website for me. Where else can you look up some of Jim Carrey's funniest moments? Carrey as the cigarette smoking hippie accepting a movie award from MTV, or his classic character Venus De Milo from In Living Color. And who can forget his Night at the Roxy character on the popular skit from Saturday Night Live? He actually played the part better than Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan, who invented the long running skit.

Potter heads can get their fix on YouTube and see close to every interview done with the stars of the popular movie series.

All of President Bush's Bushisms are also on display at YouTube. Something that will keep even the strictest conservative laughing well into the night.

But YouTube scored gold when someone uploaded a portion of last Friday night's Miss Teen USA Pageant and the answer Miss Teen South Carolina Lauren Caitlin Upton gave when asked why a fifth of Americans could not locate the United States on a world map. Her answer.

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uhmmm, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and uh, I believe that our, I, education like such as, uh, South Africa, and uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uhhh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for us."

This is priceless, people, and it can be watched over and over again in its entirety on YouTube. What's even more priceless is Upton was third runner-up in the pageant.

I've covered some local pageants and the question and answer portion of these events usually count for a lot towards each girl's score. Apparently not in the Miss Teen USA Pageant. Either that or she was just a knockout in a swimming suit.

Thank you, You Tube.
