BICKLETON - The Bickleton Lady Pirates varsity opened the season on their home court with a 54-32 win against Pasco's sophomores last night.
According to Coach Tom Whitmore, the team used full court pressure in the beginning of the game and the Bulldogs had difficulties "...bringing the ball down the court."
He said the half-court games were pretty even last night, however the Lady Pirates will be working on both offense and defense because they found there are still some plays to work out.
"We are still working on getting the ball where it needs to be," said Whitmore, stating he has seen considerable improvement since last season.
Standout players for Bickleton included Star Kibby and Katelynn Clinton, who had 8 and 10 steals, respectively. The Lady Pirates had a total of 31 steals against Pasco.
Clinton scored a total of 19 points for the Lady Pirates, and went 1-for-2 at the free throw line.
Lady Pirate Phylicia Pearson provided a total of seven assists. Whitmore said she found her open teammates repeatedly throughout the evening.
Rebound honors were earned by Clinton, with eight boards. Teammate Jeannette Jarvis rebounded the ball five times.
"This was a great opener for us," said Whitmore.
He said he looks forward to the continuing improvements, feeling as though "...we're faster and stronger (than last season), and we have good numbers with 14 girls turning out."
Bickleton will travel to Naches this coming Friday.
