Motorists on Sunnyside-Mabton Highway witnessed an unusual sight this morning (Wednesday), after a semi-trailer took the Belma Road corner short and jackknifed. Washington State Patrolman Todd Sharpe said it will likely take all day to move the big rig, as it's loaded with more than 75,000 pounds of hop twine.

Irmelin (Lynn) Rose Nichols, 90, of Snohomish died peacefully Sunday, Dec. 2, 2008, at her home.

She was born April 8, 1917 in Neiderwalluf, Germany. She and her family immigrated to the U.S. in 1929. Irmelin's family settled in Sunnyside, where she attended and graduated from Sunnyside High School.

She was a devoted mother to Ross Antipa (Mary C. Antipa) of Port Angeles; a daughter, Shelly Rollins of Snohomish; and stepchildren, William Dankenbring (Cappy) and Robert Dankenbring (Jackie). She was a loving grandmother to Brodie Antipa (Mary) and Sean Powers (Jessica) and Andrew Powers; not to mention a delighted great-grandmother to Connor, Isabelle and Emma. She is also survived by her sister, Ingrid (Mehl) Barret of Sea Tac.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, at Belle Chapel in Snohomish.

Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or to Summitdogs.org for animal rescue and companion training in her name.

Bauer Funeral Home in Snohomish is in charge of arrangements.
