Leonard Benjamin Brooks, 79, of Grandview entered into his eternal rest with family at his bedside at Prosser Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007.

Leonard was born May 15, 1928 to Edgar and Verna Henry Brooks. He was raised and educated in Grandview and Richland.

Leonard and Gwendolyn Porter were married June 18, 1948. He was a certified Nuclear Reactor Supervisor at Hanford for 25 years. He was then employed by Safeway Brookside Division until retiring in 1992.

His passion was building. His home and surrounding projects are all evidence of this.

His hobbies included H. Gauge Railroading, traveling to Europe and the Hawaiian Islands, as well as relaxing and fishing at their home in Cle Elum, at Lake Morel.

Leonard was so proud of his granddaughters, Sarah (Xavier) Valenzuela, Tiffany (Daniel) Cardenas, Tiana and Talia (Reggie) Anderson. He was devoted to his five great-grandsons, Makai, Amani, Ajoni, Xavier Jr. and Daniel Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn; his son, John (Colleen) of Spanaway; a daughter, Sandra (Everette) Labat of Grandview; his brothers, Harold and Kenneth (Mary) Brooks; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank; and a sister, Joyce Robertson.

Viewing will be held today, Dec. 14, 2007, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, at 9 a.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park in Yakima. Donations are suggested in his name to the Humane Society or a charity of the donor's choice.
