Sunnyside police are looking for two males they believe were involved in an attempted robbery and an assault with a firearm.
According to a press release issued by the Sunnyside Police Department, 26-year-old Rogelio Borrego of Sunnyside was shot at approximately 4:50 a.m. Thursday morning.
Sunnyside police raced to the 400 block of South Eighth Street for a report of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found the 26-year-old victim with a non-fatal gunshot wound.
The victim told police he had been approached by two males armed with handguns. The suspects attempted to rob the victim at gunpoint, and during the robbery the victim was beaten and shot. The suspects then fled the scene on foot to a waiting vehicle, and then drove away. There is no description of the vehicle.
The victim was transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital by the Sunnyside Fire Department, where he was treated and released.
The suspects are described as two Hispanic males, in their late teens or early 20's, wearing dark colored hooded pullovers. Both were wearing blue bandannas over their face and both were armed with handguns.
The Sunnyside police believe the victim was intentionally targeted and that this was not a random occurrence. Police do not know at this time if the incident is gang related, citing the case is still under investigation.
