Yesterday's Sunnyside High School lockdown was prompted by multiple reports to the Sunnyside Police Department of a student seen in possession of a handgun, according to police officials.
The Sunnyside Police Department requested the school district place SHS under lockdown during an investigation of the reports.
During the investigation it was discovered the individual did not have the handgun in his possession at school yesterday, Jan. 31. But, he had brought the weapon to school on another day.
Police officials report they located the handgun at a residence in the 1400 block of South Eighth Street and the 15-year-old juvenile was taken into custody and charged with student carrying a weapon to school.
It was stated by police officials that, "...there was no threat to the school."
