Lady Pirates claim victory over Mabton girls

PROSSER - The varsity Lady Pirates plundered the Mabton Viking 'C' squad in non-league game played at Prosser last night, 39-29.

"The last quarter was pretty exciting for us. It was fast paced, especially the last two or three minutes," said Coach Tom Whitmore.

The Pirates were up by 11 going into the fourth quarter. But the Vikings rallied, scoring 15 points to Bickleton's 14.

Whitmore said the Lady Pirates did exceptionally well defensively, playing man to man the entire game. Whitmore said two players stood out for the Pirates defensively-- Morgan McBride and Chelsey Mercer. "They both did a great job stealing the ball or creating the steal," he said.

Katelyn Clinton was the Pirates' top scorer for the game with 19 points, eight of which she dropped in during the fourth quarter.

The Lady Pirates (5-9) travel to Trout Lake this Saturday night for their last league game of the season. Whitmore's expecting a close contest.

"Last time we played them, the game was never really out of reach. We lost by 12 points," he said.
