Jo Marie Balfour, 69, of Sunnyside passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at Yakima Memorial Hospital.

She was born Feb. 23, 1937 to Dewey and Edna (Millard) Scott in Prosser. Jo graduated from Mabton High School in 1955. She went on to receive her education at business schools and the United States Air Force.

She married Doug Balfour in 1965 until his passing in 1966. Jo was an accountant and worked at various places throughout her lifetime. She was with the city of Mabton for 16 years as city administrator, then went on to become the mayor of Mabton. Her last position was at the Sunnyside Housing Authority.

She is survived by two sisters, Nancy J. Scott-Protor of Mabton and Linda Monger of Moses Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Ella Halpin; and two brothers, Wayne Scott and Robert Scott.

Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, from 12 (noon) until 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at 10 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home, with burial to follow at the East Prosser Cemetery, Prosser. Those wishing to honor her memory may contribute to the Carson Sister Scholarship Fund or the Mabton Community Scholarship Fund.
