KLICKITAT - Coming out of the gate sluggish in the third quarter cost the Bickleton Pirates a 52-47 decision in a sub-district match-up against Klickitat last night.
"We played well and were ahead (by five points) at halftime," said Coach Ben McBride. "We just came out really slack in the third quarter. You could feel the momentum going to Klickitat."
Bickleton scored four points to Klickitat's 19 in the third quarter.
McBride said that his team was down by 10 points going into the fourth quarter. "Once Klickitat gets a lead like that, they're pretty patient. It's tough to get the ball away from them."
Fouls also proved costly for the Pirates. Klickitat shot 17-for-22 from the free throw line while Bickleton was held to 3-of-5 shooting. "That's a huge differential," said McBride.
Of Klickitat's 52 points, only 20 were dropped inside the arc. The rest of the points were either at the foul line or beyond the arc.
Bickleton's Cody Loomis was the high scorer with 23 points. Teammate Eric Hess had a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 boards. Tyler Jensen had 10 boards, while teammate Tyler Collins had seven.
Bickleton plays Yakama Tribal at Klickitat in another sub-district game this Thursday night. If the Pirates lose, they're out of the running for district tournament play.
