KLICKITAT - The Bickleton Lady Pirates fell to Trout Lake in sub-district play this past Tuesday night, 54-29.
Coach Tom Whitmore said that despite being down 23-9 going into halftime, he still felt the Lady Pirates could pull out a win. "But we just couldn't get going," he said.
"Trout Lake's Kim Poland scored 11 of her 17 points in the third quarter and that just sparked them (Trout Lake)," he said.
Offensively, he said, "We got some good looks at good shots, but we just couldn't get the ball to fall."
Bickleton's free-throw scoring was lower than normal as well, with seven points garnered out of 23 opportunities.
Turnovers, however, weren't a problem. "They pressured us and we got through that," Whitmore said.
Despite rotating through all of 11 players, Whitmore said, "We just couldn't run the ball enough to get them tired."
Katelynn Clinton was Bickleton's high-scorer with 12 points.
The Lady Pirates travel to Klickitat for another sub-district game against Yakama Tribal this coming Thursday. "The key in that game will be defense," said Whitmore. "We've got to keep them off the offensive board. I think we can press the ball more now than we could the last time we played them."
Both games previously played this season against Yakama Tribal were tight matches. Bickleton won one by two points and lost the other by one point.
