Laverne (King) Brown passed from this earth into the loving arms of her beloved husband on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007.

She was 81 years old.

Mrs. Brown was born in Sunnyside and graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1943.

Laverne was a valued employee of First Interstate Bank in Oakland, Calif., retiring after 25 years of service. Upon her return to the Yakima Valley, she worked part time for her brother, Joe King, at Ideal Lumber and Hardware in Toppenish. She was a meticulous bookkeeper and enjoyed the stimulation of employment.

Laverne was married to Burton Brown for 47 years. He was the love of her life and together they played many a card games and enjoyed their travels together.

She is survived by her son, Richard Brown (Myra) of Santa Clara, Calif.; a granddaughter, Tera Newman (Joe); one great-granddaughter, Xaviera and a great-grandson, Joey. She is also survived by her sister, Fern Hummel of Arkansas and Loretta Orr (Gary), of Bellingham; two sisters-in-law, Barbara King and Dorothea King; four brothers-in-law, Melvin (Lois) Moore, Dean Moore, Jack (Betty) Moore and Lonnie Bedwell; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Louise Nelson and Frances Sonner.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Burt; her parents, Elmer E. and Lillie E. King; and her brothers, Glen and Joseph King.

At Laverne’s request there will be no services held. Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements.
