KLICKITAT - Following a 55-51 Sub-district tourney victory over Yakama Tribal last night, the Bickleton Pirates will now move into District play.
Yakama Tribal's Justin George hit the ground running, scoring three shots from beyond the arc in the first few minutes of the game.
"That kid came out on fire," said Coach Ben McBride. "We came out kind of flat."
The scoreboard reflected as much, with Bickleton going into the second quarter down by 10 points.
McBride said, "We didn't have that sinking feeling by being down by 10. Mentally, we played a lot better. They shook off the first quarter and that's a big turning point for these guys."
Cody Loomis sparked the Pirates in the second quarter, shooting 11 of his team-high 26 points for the night.
Going into halftime, Bickleton was up by one.
"We climbed out of it, took the lead and held on to it," said McBride.
Bickleton's Eric Hess rounded out the night with 16 points and 21 boards. Teammate Tyler Collins also had a double-double, scoring 10 points and collecting 15 boards.
The Pirates (7-12) will square off against Trout Lake in a loser-out District game tonight at Goldendale.
