It's Valentine's Day again. Man, the time seems to fly. It doesn't seem like it's been a year already since the last lover's day but it is.
I have some making up to do this year to my wife on this special day because last year we didn't observe Valentine's.
It wasn't that I forgot or anything like that. My wife was extremely pregnant that day and if I remember correctly, couldn't give two hoots about it. She was so pregnant that she had Piper the very next day.
After that all thoughts of Valentine's Day were firmly pushed from our minds. We now had a little bundle of joy to keep our minds occupied and it's funny how occupied one can get with a little baby.
It's strange because Piper didn't do anything to really occupy us. We just stared at her and smiled as she slept, and that was what occupied us.
This year will be different but I'm keeping my plans a secret. Actually that's code for I have no idea what I'm going to do for my wife for Valentine's Day but I still have time to come up with something.
Piper will be a year old tomorrow and we will be busy with her first b-day so I'm going to do something simple but special for Tanya.
I'm not trying to be cheap but I just don't think going to a restaurant and having a nice dinner would do my wife justice. Besides that, we'd have to get Piper a babysitter and Tanya just isn't ready to let anyone else watch Piper yet. Unless it's my mom but she's in Tucson so that's out of the question.
No, what I'm going to do is much simpler than that. OK, I'll spill the beans.
On Valentine's Day I'm not going to let my wife do anything for me, instead I'll do everything for her. Except for when I'm at work, of course.
When I get home she won't have to worry about Piper. I will feed and change her, give her the nightly bath and put her to bed. Then I'm going to cook my wife a very nice dinner (that's the part I really haven't figured out yet).
Whatever I choose to cook for her, it will be perfect, though. I promise that.
After dinner it will be me who cleans the kitchen and washes the dishes. After that I will iron my work clothes for the morning and then to bring the evening to a close, I might put in the Barry White CD to evoke a little romance.
Oh yeah, I think I'll get her a card, too.
And with this I hope my efforts will make up for last year's non-existent Valentine's Day.
