Mabton senior Eric Tellez was named to the SCAC all-league first team for boys basketball.
Tellez, a senior captain, led the Vikings in scoring (12.6 points per game) and rebounding (5.6 per game) on the way to clinching a State 1A berth.
"He's an outstanding defensive player," Coach Brock Ledgerwood said. Tellez, a forward, also led the Vikes with an average of three steals per game. "Eric does the little things that make our team tough," Ledgerwood observed.
Mabton junior point guard Juventino Morfin earned a second-team nod with his scoring average of 10.3 points per game.
Earning honorable mention selection was Mabton sophomore guard Tyler Herrera, who averaged 9.5 points per game.
Both Morfin and Herrera played on the Mabton JV team last season. "They took a leadership role on their shoulders," Ledgerwood said of their move to the varsity this season.
