Mildred Milby Smith Schlien, 99, of Spokane Valley and a former Sunnyside resident died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007.

She was born Feb. 2, 1908, in Moriarty, Territory of New Mexico to Arthur and Effie (Fisher) Milby. In 1934, she married Lloyd F. Smith. She married Chester K. Schlien of Mabton in 1968.

She is survived by her family, Vergie Ellen Smith Lougheed of Milwaukie, Ore., Roberta Smith (John R.) Sahr of Veradale, Wa., Thomas (Mary Ellen) Smith of Spokane, Nayda Schlien (Greg) Littlefield of Moses Lake, and Marlys Schlien (Kirk) Williams of Richland. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her two husbands; a daughter, Carolyn Schlien Quantriller; two brothers, Harold and Cranston Milby; and one sister, Florence Groshong.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Mrs. Schlien’s name to Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, a P.E.O. Chapter of your choice, or any music program of a community, college, or university.

Services will be held at Saturday, March 3, 2007, at 1 p.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sunnyside. A private family inurnment will follow at a later date. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
