Maria Aurora Marichalar Cantu of Los Indios, Texas went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, at the age of 85.

She was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Brownsville, Texas to Modesto Marichalar and Guadalupe Godoy. She was the eldest of a family of 16 children.

Aurora is survived by her brothers, Frank (Eleanor) Marichalar and Thomas Marichalar, sisters, Mary A. (Ignacio) Resendez, Victoria (Joe) Garza, Lupe Barajas-Haddox (Glenn) and Carmen Marichalar, all of Sunnyside, Isabel Gonzales of Brownsville, and Margie Lozano of Harlingen; eight

children, Dora (Ovidio) Gonzalez, Alberto (Wilda) Cantu, Angel (Rachel) Cantu, Jr., Rose (Hector) Garza, Art Cantu, Anna (Raul) Villarreal, Jr., Chubby Cantu, and Arnoldo (Maggie) Cantu;

25 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews from Washington State and Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Angel Cantu Sr.; her parents, Modesto Marichalar and Guadalupe Godoy; two sisters, Fidela (Charlie) Rodriguez and Irma Marichalar; and one brother, Lalo Marichalar.

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, from noon to 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. at Thomae-Garza Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday Feb. 24, 2007, at 12:30 p.m. at St Benedict Catholic Church in San Benito, Texas. Interment will follow at Gomez Cemetery in Los Indios, Texas, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.
