Rejoice, for this depressing winter is almost over. Tomorrow will be March 1 and we'll only have 20 more days of winter.
I like snow and everything but I just can't stand the cold. I hate it. I'd rather be sweaty with a serious case of B.O. than shiver.
My wife also hates the cold. That poor girl almost had a heart attack the first time she felt how cold a Washington winter can be.
But soon that will be over. My favorite time of the year will be here soon. I love when the days start getting longer. I also love that first day when you can go outside and actually spend some time without wearing a jacket or a hat. For several years now I have had to wear a stocking cap during winter to keep my bald head warm.
I love it when I don't have to wear it.
Another reason I'm so excited for spring 2007 to start is the Piper cub is starting to walk now. Tanya and I will be able to take her to the park and play with her. Before we had to put her in a stroller and she didn't do much. Now, I'm looking forward to chasing her as she runs around in the grass.
My wife is happy spring is almost here because she'll get to work in her garden again. That's something she loves to do and she has plans on growing a bunch of different things. She even thinks she can grow some Thai vegetables and sell them to the Thai restaurants in the Tri-Cities. I really don't see that happening but I don't want to rain on her parade. She's done a bang up job staying home and raising Piper so whatever she wants to do, I'll encourage her.
With spring come baseball and high school sports. It will be nice to get out of the gym and cover sports outside again. All of our (reporters) photographs should be getting better with the abundant lighting that comes with spring. I'm also interested in seeing what the Christian boys will do this year in baseball. They came pretty close last year.
Sunnyside has a new baseball coach this year and it will be interesting to see if he can improve on last year's record.
As a photographer and an artist, I also enjoy how the ladies dress for the warm spring weather. I'm happily married, but I'm an artist, I love to see the new spring styles and how much leg comes with it.
Spring just holds so much promise. The flowers start to grow, the farmers are busy planting, and in general, there just seems to be a buzz in the air. And to think, it will all be here in just 21 short days.
