Sometimes in life you get to hit the pause button to reflect on the past.
That happened recently when Joni presented a scrapbook to me that had clippings from some of my stories, columns and photos that have run in the Daily Sun News since I started here in August of 2005.
The timing was great with the passing of the old year and beginning of the new year.
Joni even included some little pieces of artwork and some notes of her own to help top off her scrapbook gift to me.
As I leafed through the pages there were some items that jumped right out at me, stories or photos-a visit to Qwest Field, for example-that I remember just like it was yesterday.
Then there were others that I barely remembered doing. I even had to look at the cutline or byline to remind myself that I had indeed turned in that story or photo.
Given that the Daily Sun News is a daily, I guess it's not surprising that I wouldn't remember each story from every day.
But it was neat to see those stories, games and people take on new life on the pages as the scrapbook provided a pause to reflect on my first 18 months here.
Joni's scrapbook gift to me doesn't end there.
You see, there are plenty of blank pages at the back of the scrapbook. A reminder to me to turn off the pause button, hit the play button and get back to life and work here in the Lower Valley.
