WAPATO - Grandview's wrestlers had to know they were going to have the match well in hand, as host Wapato surrendered five forfeits last night. The end result was a 57-12 CWAC South dual meet victory for the Greyhounds Tuesday evening.
The 30 forfeit points awarded Grandview didn't keep the Greyhounds from putting forth an almost heroic effort at times in the lop-sided win.
Grandview's Sergio Lopez (160), for example, was down 9-0 to Wapato's Rafael De Leon before rallying for a pin.
"He put a leg right in and pinned him," Assistant Coach Shaine Jaime said of the sudden turnabout for Lopez.
In the 275-lb. match, Joe Rodriguez also gave Grandview a come-from-behind win. Jaime said Rodriguez was trailing with just five seconds left in the match, when he turned things around with a takedown to defeat Wapato's Jordan Littlebull.
In four other matches, it was business as usual for the Greyhounds with pins over their Wapato opponents.
Brothers Garrett (119) and Dalton (135) Walker scored pins for Grandview over Eddie Flores and Francisco Palacios, respectively.
In the 189-lb. match, Juan Bobadilla delivered a pin for the Greyhounds over Wapato's Joshua Carbajal.
Adrian Jasso (215) wrapped up Grandview's pin attack by defeating Joey Silva.
The victory boosted Grandview's league record to 2-3. The Greyhounds next take the mat this Thursday at home against Prosser.
