Maria Bessey powered the Kennewick High School girls bowling team to a 4-0 sweep of the Sunnyside Lady Grizzlies in prep action this past Tuesday at Sunnyside's Valley Lanes.
Bessey rolled games of 173-205 to post the top two-game series on the afternoon.
For Kennewick, it was the second 4-0 victory over the Lady Grizzly keglers this season. Tuesday's loss dropped Sunnyside's season record to 1-12.
Sunnyside received a pair of decent efforts in Tuesday's opening game-a 151 by Veronica Alvarez and a 143 by Veronica Uribe-but it wasn't enough as the Lions scored an impressive 822-645 victory. Michelle Creek and Bessey led Kennewick in the opener with efforts of 176 and 173, respectively.
The Lions stepped up the pace in game two, tallying a 926 team total to Sunnyside's 603. Bessey's 205 led the way for Kennewick that contest, with Katie Yancey and Brittany Bergsson adding performances of 195 and 180, respectively. The top individual effort for Sunnyside in game two was a 134 by Uribe.
Kennewick closed out the match by winning both Baker games, 149-139 and 201-131. The Baker format calls for each member of the five-girl squads to alternate taking turns throughout the 10 frames.
