Emergency planning convention planned in Yakima

YAKIMA - The Yakima County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) will be hosting an emergency planning community right to know expo at the Yakima Convention Center Friday, Jan. 19, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The expo will bring together local government and private industry leaders to provide critical information about emergency preparedness measures being taken to plan, prepare and protect the residents of Yakima county in the event of a chemical release.

Grandview mulls forming organization to raise funds for new animal shelter

GRANDVIEW - A its regular meeting this past Tuesday, Grandview City Council gave City Administrator Scott Staples the go-ahead to meet with a group of individuals interested in raising funds for a new animal shelter in the city.

Council was approached with a budget request to replace the existing facility last year, but council didn't give its approval.

Staples said that he's been approaching by several interested parties and asked council's permission to "sit down and have a brainstorming session." Staples also noted that nearby Prosser recently built a new animal shelter, and that city has offered to share construction plans with Grandview at no charge.
