BICKLETON - An inability to rack up scores and collect some boards cost the Lady Pirates a victory over Klickitat this past Friday, 80-24.
"We just never showed up," said Coach Tom Whitmore, referring to his team's mental state. "Being a young team, there's a chance you're going to have a night where you're just off."
Evidently, that was the case Friday night.
"We didn't score. We didn't rebound. It was just one of those games. Not exactly what you want for your last home game," he said.
Lady Pirate Chelsey Mercer had a team-high nine points.
Whitmore did say there was some improvement over the last time they played Klickitat this season. "In that first game, (the Vandals) scored 20 points in the first four minutes of the game."
In this recent match-up, they scored 21 points in the first quarter.
"We ran zone defense, we ran man defense. If they had an open shot, it just went in," Whitmore said.
Klickitat's Trisheena Keys had a game high 26 points, which included making four three-point shots.
Whitmore has a clear idea of what the Lady Pirates need to work on. "We need to move the ball quicker, move around the perimeter quicker. One second makes a big difference," he said.
