Virginia M Lane, 99, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 27, 2007, at Sun Terrace Retirement Home, where she had been a resident for 10 years.

She and her family were long-time residents, of Sunnyside since 1938. Virginia was born in Spokane, to Rufus and Bertha Merriam and was the youngest of four children.

She married Frank Edgar (Ed) Lane of Ellensburg. She had been widowed for 34 years with the passing of her husband, Ed, in 1973.

Virginia is survived by her twins, Kenneth R. Lane, of Denver, Colo. and Charlotte L. Layport, of Aliquippa, Pa. She was the proud and loving grandmother to five grandchildren, Mark E. Layport, of Bakersfield, Calif., Matthew Todd Layport, of The Dalles, Ore., Candace J. Mertens, of Aliquippa, Pa., Kirk R. Lane, of Paron, Ark. and Monica M. Hardy, of Dallas, Texas; and nine great- grandchildren.

Virginia was a faithful and active member of the Grace Brethren Church in Sunnyside, with many years of volunteering and helping those in need. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.

A private family service will be held Friday, July 6, 2007, with internment beside her husband, Ed, at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Smith Funeral Home and to Pastor Nathan Zakahi for their comfort and assistance.
