Independence Day event wonderful

The 4th of July celebration at Clem Senn Field was a great event. Thank you Lions Club members for working hard all year to host this wonderful event for our whole community. It was an awesome fireworks display!

Thank you Dairy Princess Julie Wedam for pulling your red wagon full of milk donated by the Dairy Women; to Jose Mendoza and Jesus Ramos from Paleteria La Nortena for donating hundreds of delicious palettas, and Emmanuel Ramos for passing them out; and to Chief Ed Radder and Bengie Aguilar for blowing up hundreds of America's Promise balloons. Thanks lastly to Miss Cinco de Mayo Princesses Mayra and Jessica and their chaperone Rosalinda for helping pass out milk, balloons and stickers to the kids.

It was nice to see a lot of red wagon balloons all over the football field as children enjoyed the show with their families, drank their milk and ate their palettas.

Sunnyside truly is one of "100 Best Communities for Kids."

Donors provide the gift of life

Sponsored by the Yakima Valley Dairy Women, a successful blood drawing was held June 26. Edna and Joyce Golob chaired this important event.

We had 84 presenters and five first-time donors. Fourteen were deferred, leaving 70 units collected. Because of their efforts, 210 people will have another chance at life.

A special thank you to the sponsors for the juice, cookies, cheese crackers and ice cream bars. Our thanks also to the United Methodist Church for the use of its hall, and to Max for displaying the banner at Centennial Square.

Many thanks to volunteers Ella Mae Lochner, Alice Benedetti, Myrtis Lang, Phyllis Morris, LaVonne Boogerd and Jay Boogerd.

A very special thanks to the faithful donors who turn out to give the gift of life.

Please join us at the next blood drawing on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at the United Methodist Church hall from 1 to 6 p.m.

Pageant officials acknowledged

On behalf of the Mabton Lions Club, we would like to acknowledge and give a special thank you to our 2007 Miss Mabton Pageant coordinators Melodie Lopez and Connie Beeman.

They spent countless hours and went the extra miles as they contributed and dedicated their time to making the Miss Mabton Pageant an overall success.

Thank you.

/s/ Linda Palomarez, Mabton Lions Club secretary
