Neptunes power out a win against Naches

In the boys 14U breaststroke, David Sehlmyr puts forth his best effort for the Grandview Neptunes in last night's swim meet at Naches.

NACHES - The Grandview Neptunes swim team powered out a win over the Naches Barracudas Thursday evening, 423-307. The victory boosted Grandview's record to 2-3 in the Mid-Valley Summer Swim League standings.

Grandview's Allison Grow bested Naches's Jessica Engquist in three of the five events in the girls 18 & under division. Grow finished first in the backstroke, butterfly and breaststroke, while Engquist placed first in the freestyle and individual medley.

In girls 13-14, Neptune Tiffany Owens took first place finishes over Mckenzie Andringa in the individual medley, breaststroke and freestyle, but clocked in at 37.49 in the butterfly versus Andringa's first place time of 36.82. Owens also placed second in the backstroke against Andringa.

Barracuda Paige Engquist dominated all five events in the girls 12 & under division, and Neptune Jessica Morales placed second in the butterfly and breaststroke and third in the freestyle, while Grandview's Ashlyn Sehnert took second in the individual medley and earned four third place finishes in the breaststroke, backstroke, freestyle and butterfly. Neptune Samantha Castaneda placed second in the backstroke and third in the individual medley.

Neptunes Tiana Perez and Taylor Hall each took two first place wins in girls 10U. Hall took first in the freestyle and individual medley, and Perez took first in the breaststroke and backstroke. Naches's Alexei St. Martin took the only first in this age group for Naches in the butterfly.

In girls 8U, Grandview dominated in all five events, with Taylor Ebbelarr earning first place finishes in the freestyle and butterfly, Kendell Roberson taking first in the breaststroke and Kylie Colson taking first in the backstroke.

In boys' competition, Grandview's Keagen Christensen in the boys 16 & under division placed second behind Naches's Derek Johnson in the individual medley by two-hundredth's of a second. Christensen earned first place finishes in the breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle, forcing Johnson into second place. In the butterfly, Johnson was first.

Neptune Jared Churchill earned first place finishes in all five events in boys 11-12. Teammate Fabian Ruiz earned second place finishes in the breaststroke and freestyle and a third place finish in the butterfly. Grandview's Jose Castilleja finished second in the butterfly and third in the individual medley and freestyle. Teammate Eric Escobar took second place in the individual medley and backstroke and third in the breaststroke.

Neptune Tito Lopez also earned first place finishes in all five boys 10 & under events, with teammate Brendon McGhan trailing close behind for four second place finishes and a third place finish in the backstroke.

In boys 8U, Grandview's Taran Perez earned first place finishes in the freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke. He was forced into a second place finish in the backstroke behind Naches's Aaron George.
