Neptunes fifth at season ending swim meet

SELAH - The Grandview Neptunes traveled to Selah this past weekend for three long, hot days of swimming in the Mid-Valley Summer Swim League Championships, placing fifth out of six teams.

Girls 8&U

Grandview's Reagan Colson finished third in the breaststroke finals, while her sister, and fellow Neptune, Kylie Colson, finished eighth.

Girls 10&U

Neptune Tiana Perez placed fourth in total points collected in this age division, racking up a total of 24 points for Grandview.

Perez earned a first place finish in the backstroke, hitting the wall in 31.93. She also placed third in the individual medley finals behind first place finisher Makensie Forsyth of Prosser, who finished in 2:43.88, and Toppenish's Katrina Johnson, who finished in 2:45.43. Perez clocked in at 2:46.04.

In the freestyle finals, Perez also finished third behind Sunnyside Sharks Allyson Weddle (27.29) and Lyndsee Anderson (27.35). Perez had a third place time of 27.79. Her teammate, Taylor Hall, finished fourth (27.84).

Also in the finals, Perez finished sixth in the butterfly.

Hall earned a second place finish in the breaststroke behind Toppenish's Katrina Johnson, who clocked in at 35.12, besting Hall's time of 35.22. Sunnyside's Anderson placed third (35.32) and Grandview's Veronica Lopez finished fourth (35.33).

In the finals, Neptune Hailey Walker finished fifth in the butterfly.

Girls 14&U

Neptune Tiffany Owens finished fifth in the breaststroke finals, while teammate Kara finished placed fifth in the freestyle and eighth in the individual medley.

Girls 18&U

Grandview's Allison Grow placed fourth in the butterfly and sixth in the backstroke, while her teammate, Brittnee Sanchez, finished fifth in the freestyle and seventh in the breaststroke.

Boys 8&U

Three Grandview Neptunes earned top-eight finishes in this category.

Maurice Prieto finished fifth in the butterfly, sixth in the freestyle and seventh in the breaststroke. His teammate, Taran Perez, finished seventh in the butterfly and eighth in the breaststroke. Grandview's Jose Luis-Valdez finished sixth in the butterfly.

Boys 10&U

Grandview's Micah Binfet placed second in the breaststroke, clocking in at 37.71 behind Prosser's Taylor Gant's first place finish of 35.23.

Boys 12&U

Neptune Fabian Ruiz earned a first place finish in the finals of the freestyle, clocking in at 23.34. Toppenish's Jeremy Klarich was close behind, clocking in at 23.37 for a second place finish.

Grandview's Jared Churchill faced some stiff competition in the individual medley. Klarich finished first in the finals, clocking in at 2:10.89, while Prosser's Ty Hobbick finished second, clocking in at 2:15.96. Churchill finished third with a time of 2:19.36. Churchill also finished fifth in the breaststroke, and seventh in the backstroke and butterfly.

Grandview's Jose Castilleja finished eighth in the breaststroke.

Boys 16&U

Neptune Keagan Christensen finished fourth in the breaststroke (26.88), behind Toppenish's Anthony Galaviz (24.30), Prosser's Tyler Burgett (25.00) and Selah's Ryan Pittman (25.20). Christensen also placed fifth in the backstroke finals, sixth in the freestyle, seventh in the individual medley and tied for a seventh place finish in the butterfly with Toppenish's Sean Martin, both of whom clocked in at 24.00.
