This morning, Tuesday, Yakima County engineers closed Van Belle Road, near Sunnyside, due to erosion caused by a broken drainage pipe.
Gary Ekstedt is the county's road engineer, and noted that the erosion was first noticed this morning and the road was closed shortly afterward.
Crews have been dispatched to the site, approximately seven miles west of Sunnyside, and are working to replace the pipe and re-open the road. Ekstedt anticipates the closure will remain in effect until this Thursday, Aug. 2.
During the closure, traffic will be rerouted to Yakima Valley Highway at Dekker and Liberty roads.
