There were 12 staff members of the Sunnyside School District that were honored at Thursday night's school board meeting in Sunnyside, as the 12 are retiring at the end of the 2006-07 school year.
Judith Carrick, an eighth grade bloc and literature teacher at Sierra Vista Middle School, began teaching in Sunnyside in 1962 and taught school for a total of 44 years.
Gordon Kezele, a math teacher at Sunnyside High School, retired after teaching for the last 33 years. He started teaching in Sunnyside in 1974.
Eroll Miles, another math teacher at Sunnyside High School, being teaching in Sunnyside in 1976 and has been teaching for the last 31 years.
Rafael Rodriguez, a teacher at PRIDE High School, begin teaching in Sunnyside in 1975. He had served the school district for the last 35 years and plans to stay active with students during his retirment.
Karen Santos, a fourth grade teacher at Pioneer Elementary School, taught for 32 years and began in Sunnyside in 1975.
Another Pioneer teacher, Edward Seifert, began teaching in Sunnyside in 1990 and has 17 years of total service to the school district.
Barbara Miller began as an ASB secretary at Sunnyside High School in 1985. She is retiring after 22 years in service.
Administrators retiring from the school district are Gary Babcock, who has 39 years in Sunnyside, from 1967-1992 and 1993-2007; Karen Eaton has 19 years of service in Sunnyside, from 1988-2007; Sally Lorenz-Reeves has spent five years in Sunnyside, from 2002-2007 and is now retiring; and David Plesha will step down from running the finances for the school district. He has 36 years of service, from 1970-2000 and 2001-2007.
Long time transportation department director for the school district, David Taylor, is also retiring from the district after 30 years of service in Sunnyside, from 1977-2007.
