They'll be partying hard in the streets, make that the gym, come Friday night following this year's Sunnyside High School graduation ceremony.
All '07 SHS grads are being encouraged to attend the final class function of their prep careers at a shindig designed to blow the roof off the gym. Playing off a "Survivor" theme, this year's senior class graduation party promises to deliver a night's worth of memories for the keeping.
"We have been planning for a great senior grad party," said Lisa DeRuyter, one of the many parents of the graduates who have been toiling all year long to stage the extravaganza.
DeRuyter went on to stress that the goal is to have all the SHS grads on hand for Friday night's celebration.
"This will give the graduates a place to go and spend time having fun and making memories," she said. "Our goal is to provide a safe and fun environment for them to enjoy."
Considering what's on tap, it's hard to imagine that fun won't be had by all who choose to participate in the "Survivor" experience.
This year's Grizzly grads will have the opportunity to dance the night away to the hottest tunes hitting the airways right now. The upper level of the main gym at the high school will be transformed into a dance floor.
Below them on the lower level floor, Survivor "combatants" will vie for prizes in "blow-up" competitions such as the bungee run, gladiator joust and human twister.
"Or, they might be a Survivor seat winner while playing bingo in the commons area," said DeRuyter.
For those grads who prefer Monte Carlo night life action, casino games will be calling to them from the school's auxiliary gym. Each grad who attends Friday's party will be given $45 in casino play money. The script can be used in the casino, or can be spent purchasing raffle tickets for the many special prizes that have been donated by area merchants.
"We'll also have lots of food on hand the entire night," said DeRuyter, explaining the goodies will be available to the grads in the school lunch room.
The only stipulation put on those who attend the June 8 graduation party is that once they have entered, they will not be allowed to leave the party until 2 a.m., unless they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Considering what's in store for this year's grads, it's probably more likely they'll have to be forced to leave Friday night's final blowout of the 2006-07 school year.
