Roberto G. Rangel, 62, of
Mabton passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2007, at his home surrounded by his loving
He was born April 28, 1945,
in Mission, Texas to Guadalupe Becerra Rangel Sr. and Consuelo Gonzalez Rangel.
He later migrated with his family to Sunnyside in 1962.
Roberto received his high school equivalency
from Grandview High School. He later attended the University of Washington.
In 1966, he married Felipa
Vidaurri in Sunnyside. They divorced in 1979. In 1981, he married Rosario
Sendejar. They separated in 1993.
Roberto worked various jobs including, migrant
work, social work, owned and managed Mexican movie theatres and a drive-in,
owned and operated a music store in Grandview and later worked for Smuckers for
10 years in Grandview.
Roberto learned how to play
the accordion at the age of 14 and was well known throughout the Valley for his
musical abilities. He played at many local events including weddings and
He enjoyed teaching others
how to play music, watching western movies, drinking McDonald’s coffee, going
to church and sharing many stories and jokes. Roberto cherished spending time
with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his
ex-wife, Felipa Vidaurri of Sunnyside; his children, Consuelo Rangel of
Sunnyside, Roberto V. Rangel Jr. and companion, Rose Salazar, both of
Sunnyside, Esther V. Rangel of Seattle, Laura E. Rangel of Mabton, Rigoberto S.
Rangel and companion, Michelle Meza, both of Grandview, and one step- daughter,
Janie V. Soto of Sunnyside; and 11 grandchildren. He is also survived by his
brothers, Feliciano Rangel and wife, Mary, of Sunnyside, Ruben Rangel and wife,
Lucy, of Richland, Cruz Rangel and wife, Viola, of Moses Lake, Guadalupe Rangel
Jr. and wife, Janie, of Newport, Nieves Rangel of Moses Lake and Rogelio Rangel
of Moses Lake.
He was preceded in death by
his parents, Consuelo and Guadalupe Rangel Sr; his brother, Raymundo Rangel;
his ex-wife, Rosario Sendejar; and one son, Roel Rangel.
visitation will be held Wednesday, June 20, 2007, from
4 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary to be recited at 6
p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Mass of Christian Burial will be held
Thursday, June 21, 2007, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sunnyside,
with burial to follow at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside. Smith
Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
