Ralph L. Pickel, 88, a long-time Outlook resident, went to be in the arms of his heavenly Father Tuesday, June 19, 2007, in Sunnyside.

Ralph was born July 29, 1918, in Wilbur, the son of Ralph and Jesse (Long) Pickel.

On Oct. 3, 1938, he married Dorothy L. Marsh in Yakima. Ralph worked for Sunnyside Valley Irrigation until his retirement.

He enjoyed gardening, short trips, reading and spending time with his grandchildren.

Ralph is survived by 11 children, Howard Pickel (Betty Lou) of Grandview, Kathryn Tanson of Orland, Calif., Lonnie Pickel of Sunnyside, Arlene Patton of Spokane, Paulette Frye (Terry) of Ellensburg, Gary Pickel (Jeanne) of Outlook, Myrna Cullen (Steve) of Naches, Diana Kochan of Valley Ford, Calif., Debra McGhehey (Bob) and Karen Krous, all of Edmonds, and Penny Schmierer of Naches; 25 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; and two brothers, Lester and Jerry Pickel.

Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, June 22, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Please join us Saturday, June 23, 2007, at 10 a.m., at Zillah Cemetery, under the direction of

Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
