Grandview community to unite for July 4 celebration

GRANDVIEW - Grandview is currently gearing up for its 30th annual Flag Raising Ceremony, set to take place on July 4, at 9 a.m., downtown at Stokely Square.

The community event is sponsored by the Grandview Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Representative Dan Newhouse is the featured guest speaker for the Independence Day ceremony.

Rick McLean will serve as Master of Ceremonies and his daughter, Alexiis, will sing "Letter from War" by Mark Shultz. The Columbia Patriot Wind Ensemble of Richland will also perform music. Chris Valler will perform "Taps," and the Grandview VFW and AmVets will present colors and offer a 21-gun salute.

Marcus Morales will lead the crowd in the pledge of allegiance. Ben Potter will offer the invocation and Bryce Humpherys will offer the benediction. Chorister Kim Humpherys will sing the "Star Spangled Banner," with accompaniment from the Columbia Patriot Wind Ensemble.

Two young men achieving the rank of Eagle Scout this past year will be recognized at the event for their accomplishments. The two are Dave Tobin of Grandview, who arranged for and installed a flag pole at the school in Benton City, and Sam Wise, who constructed park benches in a White Pass camping area.

A free continental breakfast will follow the ceremony.
