Breaking News: Outlook residents escape harm in drive-by shooting




Mary Elizabeth Bennett, 89, of Sunnyside passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2007, at Just Like Home in Sunnyside.

She was born Sept. 5, 1917 in Joseph, Ore. to John Washington and Ruth Agatha (Meadows) Bennett. Mary was a babysitter to many children in the Valley for more than 35 years.

She is survived by her children, John Edwin Summers and wife, Kathyrn, of Spokane, Roberta Smallwood and husband, Wayne, of Athens, Texas and Rosele Church and husband, Delmas, of Othello; 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren; her siblings, Roxie Patrick of Kansas, Clara Giece of Maryland, Edna Nichols of Yakima, Naomi Pomerinke of Spokane and Joy McCoy of Irrigon, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest Bennett; one daughter, Maxine McCardy; two brothers, Tommy and Edgar; and two sisters, Sally and Pat.

Viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2007 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Outlook Cemetery. Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside is in charge of arrangements.
