Gang ties alleged in two Sunnyside arrests Thursday

Yesterday, March 1, at approximately 1:30 p.m. the Sunnyside Police Department dispatched officers to a report of gang activity in the area of South Hill Park.

Responding officers located Alvino L. Leon, 23, and Juan N. Fuentes, 19, upon arrival. The two men are alleged to have been urinating and writing gang graffiti on the rafters of the Lions Club Pavilion while standing on picnic tables at South Hill Park. Officers discovered fresh graffiti in the location indicated by the reporting party. One suspect claimed he was an active member of a gang. The other, though he denied being a gang member, was allegedly wearing gang related clothing.

Marijuana was allegedly found in the possession of one suspect and pipes were reportedly found nearby.

Both suspects were arrested and charged with malicious mischief third degree and drug paraphernalia prohibited. Leon has also been charged with driving while license suspended third degree, and Fuentes was charged with marijuana prohibited. They are currently in the Sunnyside Jail, according to police reports.
